PSA “signatures” as prognostic indicators following radiotherapy
November 20th, 2008 Posted in radiation therapyA team of Australian researchers has reported on the potential use of what they are calling PSA “signatures” as a significant improvement in the way to monitor patients following radiotherapy.
The use of PSA alone has long presented problems as a marker for disease progression followijng radiotherapy because the PSA takes time to reach its lowest level after treatment and may then rise again before it stabilizes.
The other question that needs to be asked and answered is whether the same PSA signatures can be identified in men undergoing brachytherapy as opposed to external beam radiotherapy.
