Cryo surgery - New prostate cancer treatment

June 23rd, 2010 Posted in prostate cryotherapy

A new surgical procedure, known al cryo surgery, freezes prostate cancer. Many studies suggest cryo surgery drastically cuts recovery time.

This procedure is basically done as an outpatient procedure. These patients who choose to undergo cryoblation are put under anesthesia, then probes are placed in the prostate under ultra sound guidance and finally, the urologist team freeze all or part of the prostate depending on the clinical situation.

Other significant benefits of this minimally invasive procedure include, lower morbidity and side effects in comparison to other treatments, negligible incidence of incontinence, minimal blood loss and option to repeat if necessary.
