Criotherapy in Scotland with “encouraging” results

October 11th, 2009 Posted in prostate cryotherapy

Doctors in Scotland have revealed they are giving tumours frostbite to fight prostate cancer. Since the procedure, known as cryotherapy,  was introduced last October, 13 men have undergone the treatment, with “encouraging” results.

During this minimally invasive procedure, the tumours are frozen then thawed, with the cancer cells being shattered and killed as a result. Doctors have revealed that cryotherapy is only available to men whose prostrate cancer has recurred despite previous radiotherapy and have inoperable tumours, or where surgery would be very risky.
