Provenge, another option for prostate cancer patients

May 22nd, 2010 Posted in prostate cancer

Today a new prostate cancer treatment option, Provenge, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The drug offers hope for men (and their families) to potentially extend and improve the quality of life for those who are suffering from advanced prostate cancer. The treatment is also available for patients with asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic metastatic castrate-resistant (hormone refractory) prostate cancer.

Provenge harnesses the individual’s own immune system to fight cancer through a process called active cellular immunotherapy. Patients should work with their healthcare providers to determine if they are an appropriate candidate for Provenge at this time.
