New approach in prostate cancer cure
May 30th, 2009 Posted in prostate cancerDoctors are starting to consider a new approach to treat prostate cancer disease, that means to attempt gene-guided treatment for men with advanced disease.
Researchers claim that cancerous tumors carry a signature of gene and protein activity that reveal whether a cancer is more or less aggressive and whether it is susceptible to various treatments. By learning to decode the tumor’s genetic signature, doctors will find if the disease it is susceptible to a certain treatment.. Following this approach doctors may decide whether to try or skip chemotherapy, for example. The same genetic signature may separate which men with hormone-resistant advanced cancer still have a very active androgen receptor and which don’t.
