Routine evaluation does not predict prostate cancer
December 24th, 2009 Posted in prostate cancer diagnosisA new study from the Mayo Clinic has emerged analyzing the link between prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels and prostate size. The study concluded that routine annual evaluation of prostate growth cannot predict the development of prostate cancer.
However, the study suggests that a quickly rising PSA level should automatically prompted the need a biopsy to determine the possibility of prostate cancer. According to study leader, rising PSA levels are a great concern, but the amount of fluctuation between the numbers is only thing determining the need for a biopsy in cancer patients.
