New blood biomarker may predict when prostate cancer spreads beyond tumor

February 28th, 2008 Posted in prostate cancer diagnosis

US researchers have developed a new plasma marker that could help predict whether a patient’s prostate cancer would spread beyond the solid tumor site into their lymph nodes. This new finding could lead to more accurate prediction of cancer metastasis thereby improving patient management. The biggest problem with prostate cancer is that when it spreads beyond a solid tumor, it often does so at a microscopic level that typically cannot be identified by conventional imaging methods such as CT scans.
