Lack of benefit for the ADT to dose-escalated RT in treatment of prostate cancer

July 19th, 2010 Posted in hormone therapy, radiation therapy

Over the years, several randomized trials have shown the benefit of combining androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) with radiation therapy (RT) for the first- and second-line treatment of men with prostate cancer.

A recent study at the William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan targeted the assessment of ADT benefits for prostate cancer treated with dose-escalated radiotherapy

Researchers concluded that benefits of ADT in the setting of dose-escalated RT remain poorly defined. New data is now questioning whether adjuvant ADT actually has the same level of benefit in first-line therapy of men with intermediate- and high-risk disease treated with dose-escalated RT. This question must continue to be addressed in prospective study.
