British doctors are testing a new prostate cancer treatment
June 17th, 2009 Posted in hifuBritish doctors are finding high-intensity focused ultrasounds or Hi-Fu destroys cancer cells without serious side effects and they now are testing a new treatment that uses the power of sound to kill prostate cancer.
Traditional treatments like surgery and radiation can damage healthy cells in and around the prostate, leading to impotence and incontinence. This is a very sensitive part of the anatomy and hifu will deal with what needs to be done and only what needs to be done. The goal of new treatment would be to find and destroy cancer cells in the prostate, not affecting normal functions. For instance, the urinary tube that runs through the prostate and nearby nerves needed for sexual function are not damaged using this Hi-Fu treatment.
