Saw Palmetto a Viable, Natural, Alternative Treatment for Prostate
March 30th, 2008 Posted in alternative treatmentsAn old study at the University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine, lead by lead by Dr. Leonard Marks, confirmed Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) as a viable, natural, alternative treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP). The same study showed that saw palmetto also reduces swelling in enlarged prostate tissue.
According to lead investigator, in an open trial, 67 percent of patients on Serenoa described their subjective symptom relief as “excellent”, while 25 percent characterized their relief as “good”. No side effects or toxicity were noted. The 21 participants who supplemented their diet with saw palmetto were satisfied with the results. In fact, 19 decided to continue supplementing after the study concluded. I believe urologists may now consider saw palmetto a viable, natural, alternative treatment for many men with BPH.
