No-carb diet appears to slow prostate cancer growth
May 27th, 2009 Posted in alternative treatmentsA new study in miceĀ the Duke Prostate Center has suggested that restricting carbohydrates could slow the growth of prostate cancer tumours.
Stephen Freedland, M.D., urologist and lead investigator on this study said that the researchers believe that insulin and insulin-like growth factor contribute to the growth and proliferation of prostate cancer, and that a diet devoid of carbohydrates lowers serum insulin levels in the bodies of the mice, thereby slowing tumour growth.
The findings appear in the May 26, 2009 online edition of the journal Cancer Prevention Research.
