02 October 2010 Conventional prostate cancer treatments endangers men's aspects of lifeResearchers had discovered that in all radiation and surgery groups, symptoms of urinary incontinence had become worse within the first year following treatment and then showed improvement in the second year however, it did not come back to pretreatment levels. In the men treated with hormone-blocking medications, urinary incontinence inclined to get worse over a period of four years. The researchers reasoned that the medication possibly lead to degeneration of the public muscles. All the treatments eventually ended up causing a decrease in sexual functioning during the first year after treatment, with surgery having the largest effect. Surgical patients seemed to undergo improvement in sexual symptoms within the second year after treatment however, no kind of improvement was observed in the patients who had other treatments. In the end, sexual function was about the same in all treatment groups. Due to the fact most prostate cancer is slow developing and cannot at anytime present a threat to men's health, screening for this disease within the last few years has become debatable. Physicians are becoming more concerned that there are major numbers of men being subject to severe side effects without any good cause reasoning. Researchers stated that the decision over the type of treatment for prostate cancer should be made by the man and their physician. However, having the knowledge of what to expect in the long term in reference to quality of life can aide in guiding those decisions. Unfortunately, little progress has been made in the area of treatment of prostate cancer and the side effects which men are left with by conventional treatments tend to sway their decision to avoid conventional treatments all together. No one wants to lose any aspect of quality of life. Many find the procedure of surgery along with other treatments to be risky and invasive. So many men are turning to alternative treatments. Many alternative treatments for prostate cancer are being used by themselves or in combination with conventional treatments. Many patients seek alternative treatments from the very start of cancer and throughout the course of treatments. To date the most promising treatments are those in which use both conventional and alternative treatments.
